Parañaque City Council Urges LRTA to Rename Dr. Santos Station

Parañaque City Council Urges LRTA to Rename Dr. Santos Station

The Parañaque City Council is officially urging the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) to rename one of the new LRT-1 extension stations from “Dr. Santos” to “Dr. Arcadio Santos.”

In Resolution No. 2025-230 (004), the 10th Council argued that the shortened name “Dr. Santos” is too generic and fails to properly honor local history. The council seeks to recognize Dr. Arcadio Santos, a Parañaque native and former Rizal governor, after whom the nearby avenue is named.

The resolution states that “the station name Dr. Santos is a common name, thus, there is a need to rename the station to Dr. Arcadio Santos.”

The Dr. Santos station is one of five new stops inaugurated in November 2024 as part of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1, which also includes Redemptorist-ASEANA, MIA Road, Asia World (PITX), and Ninoy Aquino Avenue stations.

The extension has boosted LRT-1’s daily ridership by roughly 80,000 passengers and reduced travel time between Parañaque and Quezon City by nearly an hour.
